Number the Stars written by Lois Lowry is a very interesting novel. This novel tells about a ten-year-old girl, Annemarie Johansen, who lived in city of Copenhagen, Denmark, during the World War II. It was September 1943, the third year since the Nazis took over Denmark and also the year when they began to relocate all of the Jews of Denmark. Annemarie and her family was a brave and loyal family. They tried their best to protect Ellen Rosen and her family, who are the Jews, from the Nazi soldiers. They risked their life just to help the Rosens escape to Sweden.

I love this book because it has many moral lessons. It teaches us to be brave, to be grateful for everything we have, to help each other in any situation and also tells us the meaning and importance of friendship. However, to be brave isn’t that easy. We need to trust ourselves that we can do it, and like what Uncle Henrik said in the novel, “it is much easier to be brave if you do not know everything.” 

After I read this book, I also realize that sometimes I do not really appreciate what God has given to me. I forget how truly blessed my life is. And now  let me tell you the reason why I chose “Don’t Lose the Moon while Counting the Stars” as the post title, it is because it has a very deep meaning. The meaning is “never ignore a person that loves you, cares of you, and misses you. Because one day, you might wake up from your sleep and realize that you lost the moon while counting the stars.”

 Nothing last forever, enjoy it while you have it.

we can also find some metaphors in this story such as the Star of David necklace, the cupcake which is Annemarie’s favorite food, the Nazi soldiers, and the Resistance. The Star of David necklace is the symbol for the Jews, the Nazi soldiers are like the people in our life who always make us down, the Resistance is the people who always try their best to make us happy, they are such as our parents and friends. And for the cupcake, since the war began, Annemarie had never eat the cupcakes anymore so it can also tells us to enjoy and appreciate everything that we have now because it might disappear someday.

I would like to rate this book 9 out of 10 and I also recommend it for the people who don’t appreciate their life, so they will realized how lucky they are, also for the people who don’t believe in themselves and for them who aren’t brave enough to do the right thing although it will risk their life.

I hope this book can change us to be a better and useful person.
